About ConcreteCalc
What ConcreteCalc is, why it exists, and the 'buy the plan, not the volume' philosophy behind every calculator on the site.
ConcreteCalc is a set of free, honest material-estimating tools for DIY jobs: concrete, gravel, mulch, topsoil and pavers. Type your dimensions, get the volume, the weight, the bag count and a rough cost — with every assumption shown on the page rather than baked invisibly into a number.
Why it exists
Most material calculators online give you a single rounded number with no formula, no stated density, and no way to correct either. That hides the two facts that actually matter when ordering: what the tool assumed, and whose number you should trust instead — your supplier’s. ConcreteCalc’s calculators expose the density, the yield and the waste margin as editable inputs, cite the published figures they default to (see sources), and label manufacturer data as such.
The philosophy
Buy the plan, not the volume. The right order isn’t just L × W × D — it’s volume plus a waste margin you chose deliberately, expressed in the unit you’re actually buying (bags, yards or tons), plus a second number to compare it against (bags vs truck, bulk vs bags, per-yard vs per-ton). Every calculator on this site is built to show the decision, not just the arithmetic.
Order the truck or the bags, not the anxiety. Past roughly a yard of concrete, bags are usually the wrong answer; under half a yard, a truck is. The bag table and ready-mix line on the concrete calculator exist to make that comparison concrete (pun intended) instead of hand-wavy.
Sibling sites
ConcreteCalc is part of a family of small, single-purpose calculator sites, each with the same honest-inputs, no-accounts approach:
- PaintCalc — paint coverage and coats
- EVCharge — EV charging time and cost
- PowerBill — electricity cost from watts and rates
- PaceCalc — running pace, splits and finish times
